BCeSIS Project

Mentor Manager Systems Inc. will be implementing a general purpose BCeSIS data exchange service for syncing external Student Information System to Mentor Enterprise and posting Marks and Progress data to BCeSIS.  A number of our customers are jointly approaching the BC Ministry of Education to ensure Student data and LMS Marks within Mentor Enterprise are routinely synchronized.   This capability is planned for development based on Customer demand.

CSI Collaboration Strategy

Comply with CSI Data Requirements

In July 2003, our development team closely reviewed the features and data elements identified in the Ministry RFP document. All identified data elements were added to the Mentor Enterprise SQL Server database in August 2003.

XML Web Services for Data Exchange

Mentor Manager Systems can provide an online copy of all Mentor Enterprise datasets to allow the Ministry to pull or push any required data via XML to populate or update matching data in either the CSI System, or Mentor.

Currently the Mentor Ministry Gateway performs a similar function by pushing formatted text files for all know Ministry data requirements. These include 1701, PEN and Trax data.

The required data mapping between an Oracle and SQL Server database is easily achieved and is a typical scenario in many large business organizations.

Learning Management System Connectivity

A key component of Mentor Enterprise is the database-driven Learning Management System embedded in Mentor Enterprise.

Sites can deploy this component and plan to update the Ministry Oracle database with on-demand course marks and progress tracking.

The .Net Student Course Navigator is a high performance web delivery environment for Students to access online courses and share their current school work load with parents.

An innovative end user development tool set is available for Districts to build .Net add-on applications or reports to the Mentor Enterprise Framework.  No coding required.

Districts can plan to effectively collaborate on Course Development and sharing Courses by utilizing the Course Repository Server hosted by Mentor Manager Systems in Nelson. This is a fully functional Web Service available for use in 2003.

This integration alone offers Districts a very powerful course delivery and management environment.

Currently, some District are migrating Web CT course to Mentor Enterprise due to the ease of use and the benefit of having a database as the core of the Learning Management System.

Mentor .Net Application Builder

Mentor .Net Application Builder is an innovative end user browser-based development tool is available for Districts to build .Net add-on applications or reports to the Mentor Enterprise Framework. No coding required.

Future needs for District Applications

We believe Districts will want to acquire or build small to medium sized applications on a central SQL database hosted in the District server rack or at a delegated service provider.

Providing tools and approved methodologies to Districts to work with Microsoft Office and end user .Net development tools with a SQL Server database has a high probability of achieving success, at an acceptable cost.

The model below is a excerpt from a strategic planning project we were involved with last year in school district 20.  The model attempts position key elements for curriculum and learning and the supporting organization entities and support services.
